Tagging as a smart sensor

PACIFICfactory support an extensive tagging portfolio for all industry and application types.

Our products and services span products tailored from OEM’s, integrators to end users.  We support modules to design your own readers, ready to use readers and an extensive tag range.

Readers

We have partnered regionally in Australia & New Zealand with CAEN RFID to supply modules, portable, fixed, and industrial floor readers for production lines and other use cases.

Tags

Tags for all industries available in diverse form factors are supported to complement our offering of tagging solutions.

RFID

RFID tag technology dates back to the 80’s that require a dedicated reader. Recent updates such as the RAIN standard positions it as a relevant technology to consider.   This technology offers a long range up to 100m and the size of antennas for both the tag and readers are key for this.

NFC

NFC is a recent addition that is supported on mobile phones as a method for secure payment.  Typically, the range is 2cm however dedicated readers are not required.  Mobile phones also support simple workflow without the need for any apps featuring for example to read PDF’s.

BLE

Specialised readers called gateways are required to be placed at known locations.  Although considered a tagging technology it uses BLE (Bluetooth low energy) rather than RFID magnetic field coupling.

Miscellaneous features

Several new chip vendors have developed additional battery less features such as temperature, humidity, strain and several other sensing abilities to tagging.  The most exciting developments has been NFC with these additional smart features as it can be directly read by a mobile phone out of the box.

Overview

Each tag has a factory installed unique ID that can point to data stored somewhere else.  Tag reading equipment is able to interpret the ID and data and accomplish a defined workflow to solve a particular problem.
