Linear and polar robots for productivity

Overview

Two main classes of robots exist…those that have one or more axis and move linearly and those that pivot around a centre.

What robots do well:
  • Repetitive tasks, such as assembling products or picking and packing orders.
  • Dangerous tasks, such as welding or working in hazardous environments.
  • Machine minding loading/unloading parts for consistent lower cycle times.
  • Tasks that require precision, such as surgery or manufacturing microchips
  • Tasks that require 24/7 availability, such as monitoring security cameras or running production lines
Why use a robot?
  • Increased productivity: Robots can work faster and more consistently than humans, which can lead to increased output.
  • Reduced costs: Robots can help to reduce labor costs, as well as the costs associated with accidents and injuries.
  • Improved quality: Robots can help to improve the quality of products and services, as they are less likely to make mistakes than humans.
  • Increased flexibility: Robots can be easily reprogrammed to perform new tasks, which can help businesses to adapt to changing market conditions.
How the two robot classes work?

There are two types of robots namely linear and polar:

Linear
  • This class of robots can have one or more linear moving axis.
  • This is used to lower cost for more dedicated tasks.
  • Linear or mathematically interpolated paths can be programmed.
Polar
  • This class of robots has a single central pivot point and operate in a polar path.
  • The robot type is more flexible and can be adapted to complex tasks with modelling software.
  • The polar robot is often not as fast as it’s linear counterparts.
  • Costs are usually higher.
