Overview
The ctrlX controllers from Bosch Rexroth is a new breed of solutions that is a multi-roll family and can solve typical automation problems cost effectively.
Rexroth markets the controller with a similar philosophy as hardware with the Android of applications. A low-cost hardware unit can support multiple application licenses such as IEE 61131-3 PLC, Node Red, Grafana, databases and countless other common software types.
Software development
Several application development platforms can be licensed from the Bosch store such as Node Red, IEC61131-3 PLC and much more.
Legacy PLC controllers software and hardware has been close coupled and inseparable in the past. Along came a German company CODESYS three decades ago to break that bond by offering only the software layer that could be ported onto any hardware platform. Today 70% of PLC manufacturers support CODESYS on the hardware.
Bosch Rexroth has gone the extra mile to not only utilise CODESYS but also to make it their own making their development workflow one of the best around for IEC61131-3 developments.
Extensibility
More of Rexroth products such as their VFD drives also support the ctrlX Core development platform.
Due to the CODESYS heritage ctrlX Core also support motion control so the controller can be used as the basis of any cnc type machine.
